“We believe in One God, the Father…” (Nicene Creed).
“God is Spirit,” as it is written.¹ He is a simple, solitary substance; infinite, boundless, invisible, incorporeal, immutable, atemporal, self-sufficient.
God is Perfect Trinity—Father, Son, Holy Spirit, “and these three are one.”² We know, by the holy scriptures, that “the Lord is One”³ and “beside Him there is no other.”⁴ He is One Essence, in Three Hypostases; indivisible, inseparable, numerically one, in Whom there is no multiplicity of being or action.
Lord, guide us into all truth, and allow us to understand the mystery of your Great Nature, inasmuch as we are able to. Be merciful to us, and grant to us a sober mind, that we may see what is above, and that we may recognize that you are truly incomprehensible.
We pray all these things, in the Name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit— One God. Amen.
